The HGH Convention Centre appears like a giant white auditorium from outside. Its location may be a bit off the beaten track, but it is actually quite near to the city centre. It brands itself as a complete convention centre with a full range of add-on services like catering and additional AV equipment rental.

The main 12,000 sq ft convention hall can also be used as a banquet or exhibition venue. A smaller auditorium upstairs and a meeting room complete the facilities. There may be only 100 covered car parks within the building but parking is not difficult to find on the adjacent grounds.

One thing to note is that the convention centre is surrounded by an unusually high number of schools. Expect a little congestion in the area during school transportation hours.

HGH Convention Centre is also popularly referred to as the 'Sentul Chinese School Hall'.

Malaysian weddings tend to be themed around colour which is pretty easy for guests to dress up for. However, for more adventurous couples, they might go a little further and decide on an era or music related theme.

How would you inform guests that it's a 1920's theme wedding and let them know, if they would like, to join in on the fun and dress the part without them thinking it's required?

Theme weddings can be a bit intimidating to guests, especially those who are less-inclined to make a spectacle of themselves.

A cleverly worded invitation is the key to a successful theme wedding. First of all, set the stage for the entire event. For a 1920's soiree, you might choose an art deco-style invitation and font.
Then, rather than just saying "reception to follow," you could say "After the ceremony, please join us for a jazz-age inspired celebration. Dance the Charleston, and enjoy some speak-easy refreshments." Then, at the bottom, write either "1920s costumes encouraged" or "Dress: 1920s-inspired clothing or cocktail attire." For an extra added touch, consider having an assortment of fedoras, cloche hats, feather boas, and long beaded necklaces for those guests who didn't dress up, but wish that they had.

Outdoor weddings are romantic and beautiful. However, they aren't as easy as they may look. Outdoor weddings come with additional caveats and pitfalls, but if you follow these tips, you'll be sure to shine on your wedding day.

1. Make your guests comfortable Malaysian weather is mostly sunny and hot. Don't leave your guests uncomfortably melting – have your ushers give guests ice-cold bottles of water as they are seated. Consider renting lots of industrial fans to keep the air circulating.

2. Have a backup plan What will you do if it rains? The ideal outdoor wedding location has an indoor location waiting just in case. Many brides and grooms opt to have their ceremony outside and reception inside. In a pinch, the tables can be scooted to the back of the room during the ceremony. A tent is another option, but only for light to moderate rain storms. A heavy rain will soak the ground underneath, leaving guests with soggy and muddy shoes. Building platforms can solve this problem though they will definitely increase cost.

3. Plan for Wind. Many outdoor weddings suffer from windy conditions. Avoid light fabrics like chiffons and china silks in your dress and the bridesmaid dresses. Tell your hairstylist that you'll be having an outdoor wedding so she/he can plan a style that won't leave you looking like Cousin It! Men in the wedding party should use pomade or other styling product.

4. Can everybody hear? When you picture your dream wedding at the beach or garden, you're probably not hearing the roaring of the waves, outside traffic, the rushing wind, or the local kids running and screaming around you. Look into renting a sound system with clip mikes for the bride, groom and officiant. Your DJ or band may be able to easily arrange this for you. Sometimes, when guests are placed in different areas blocked by pillars or walls, make sure to have speakers and even perhaps a projector screen so that they can still hear and see the going-ons. Guests don’t appreciate being isolated.

5. Decorations. One of the bonuses of an outdoor wedding is the natural beauty around you, lessening your need to decorate. But you still need to do some work. Visit the site a week before your wedding to make sure the grass is mown, the ground raked, and the flowers have bloomed. If your wedding is at a public park, you may want to ask the groomsmen or friends to do this the morning of your ceremony. Other decorations you may want to consider include an arch or trellis to focus the ceremony and frame the bride and groom as they say their vows or walk in; strings of lights or lanterns in the trees; luminarias; torches; or farolitas.

6. Make things tasty outside. Does your caterer have experience planning an outdoor wedding menu? Make sure they're planning things that will keep well outdoors in the heat. Avoid things like mayonnaise salads or dishes which must be served cold.

7. Don't leave your guests parched Since alcohol is dehydrating, consider serving a variety of lemonades, teas and punches. Be sure to have plenty of ice and water around as well.

8. Those pesky flying things. Be sure to put out citronella candles or a bug zapper so that your guests won't spend the whole ceremony swatting at the air. Lemon grass helps too. You might want to provide guests with mini insect repellants or at least lightly spray them with it.

9. Here comes the sun. Consider timing your outdoor wedding for sunset where your guests will see you take your vows surrounded by the warm glow of the sun. Those having a daytime outdoor wedding should orient the ceremony so that the sun will be on guests' backs rather than in their eyes. Early evening weddings are less formal making guests feel more relaxed and less rushed. Tea can be served instead of dinner but make sure this is mentioned in the invitation card!

10. Permits. Don't forget to contact your city parks department or other local government to get a permit for an outdoor wedding. Be sure to ask about rules concerning trash removal, candle or torch lighting, and pre-wedding photography.

When brides and grooms start looking for wedding venues, it’s not uncommon to think of hotel ballrooms, clubhouse, your own house or a Chinese restaurant. Things that usually help you decide would be the rental cost, Food and Beverage cost and how many guests it can accommodate.

Once you know these things, and you have a few wedding venues in mind that fit that budget and size, then it's time to start asking questions!

• What's the decor like? Does it fit your style and wedding colors? Will you have to spend a lot of money on flowers and decorations to make it beautiful?

• When thinking of using a Clubhouse or Community Hall, ask this: Do they have an in-house caterer, and do you like that food? (While an in-house caterer can be easier and cheaper, sometimes the food is not as beautiful as the room. So make sure you taste it!) Do they have a limitation on which outside caterers you can use?

• Do they have adequate bathroom facilities and parking space?

• Is the wedding venue wheelchair accessible? If not, are there many stairs to climb? How close is the parking to the ceremony and reception rooms?

• What's the cancellation policy?

• Is there a payment schedule? What kind of deposits are required?

• Are there any hidden costs? (Before you sign the contract, read it carefully.)

• What are the overtime charges?

• Do they have a liquor and music license?

• Will they allow you to bring your own liquor? (This is usually cheaper, even with the customary corkage fee.)

• Is there room in the wedding venue for a band and/or dancing?

• Does the wedding venue already own a sound system with adequate speakers or will that need to be rented?

• Is there a space for the bride and groom to change and/or relax?

• Where will you take photographs? Is there a park nearby, or do the coordinators have recommended spots on the grounds?

• Who will be supervising and troubleshooting before the day of your wedding? Who will be supervising and troubleshooting on the day of your wedding? Can you meet them now? This is essential for technical issues as well in case you need a photo presentation using a projector and laptop.

• Where can your guests park? Are there extra fees for parking? Do they have valet parking?

• Is the wedding venue convenient to public transportation, especially in big cities? How long will it take your guests to get there?

• Especially in museums or private clubs, are there limitations on decorations? Do they limit food and drinks to only certain areas of the wedding venue?

• Are candles or other open flames allowed?

• If its an outdoor location, do they have any backup plans for rain or other inclement weather? If not, is there a place that you can put up a tent?

Wedding Venues- how to choose them?

It’s been a year since Michael Jackson's untimely death. His music will always be timeless and since his music makes us feel good, it makes perfect sense to play them at weddings. Here are 5 Michael Jackson songs suitable for weddings.

1. We've Got a Good Thing Going

I love it when first dance music is slow enough to be romantic but not so slow that the couple can't have some fun. This song of celebration's easy 70's beat feels like sun in the summertime – easy and free.

2. I'll Be There

This is an oldie but a goodie from the Jackson 5, complete with those adorable teenage voices. Though there is one brief lyric that mentions the possibility of one day finding someone new, this sweet ballad promises over and over again that your sweetheart will always be there for you even if you do. Some people say this song is about asking a lover to give you another chance after a breakup, but the lyrics don't indicate that.

3. The Way You Make Me Feel

This was the third #1 hit from his legendary album Bad. Not only is it about love, but it that will get everyone on the dance floor and singing along. And really, what else can you ask from a Michael Jackson wedding song?

4. I Just Can't Stop Loving You

Surprisingly, this was the first of five #1 hits from Bad. Though today it is not as popular as the other hits, it's still a solid R&B ballad between Jackson and Siedah Garrett. It's perfect for a first dance song, or for during dinner.

5. P.Y.T.

Every DJ keeps in their back pocket an arsenal of songs guaranteed to pack the dance floor. This is absolutely one of those songs – it's got a compelling beat, call and response, easy-to-sing-along-to lyrics, and a fluffy funk that makes it fun. The lyrics are somewhat sexual so it won't work if you've got a sensitive crowd, but otherwise make sure your DJ includes this track.

I love Halloween parties as people get to dress up and take on a totally different personality. I recently got a chance to organize a Haunted House birthday party for 7 year old triplets and I must say the kids really enjoyed themselves.
As we were just putting the final touches to the decor, clouds started to gather for the perfect haunted House weather. Needless to say, it started pouring 30 minutes before the party was supposed to start. Skeleton legs and hands were seen being detached by the heavy downpour but most of the decor remained alright.

As guests started trickling in, we started with ghoul facepainting at 5.30pm before a zombie and his "pontianak" mate made an appearance to the delight (and horror) of the kids there. A few started crying but then quickly got over the fright when they saw that the characters meant no harm and were really more afraid of them!

Then, the Grim Reaper entered, rain turned into a light drizzle and eventually stopped. He then conducted some Haunted House related games which included a spider hunt. This was followed by a group photo taking session and the mandatory candle blowing. After one more game, the kids were then taught by a witch to make slime. They each had a small bag of slime to take home after that.
After dinner, there were candy jars filled to the brim for kids to make their pick from to place into nice candy bags.

From the outside, you wouldn't be able to guess what kind of cuisine is served at Citrus Cafe and Restaurant but once you step in, the whiff of spices and fresh scents fill the air triggering the stomach acids to go into overdrive.

Citrus Cafe and Restaurant offers a laid-back environment where you can surf the net and enjoy a good cuppa. More than just a hang out place, Citrus serves hearty meals, ranging from local to western flavours.

Walk into this restaurant and you will be greeted by the clean white furniture with green and white rattan lanterns hanging overhead.Though it is just 6 months old, this little eatery is booming with fresh ideas like Weekly Friday Buffet (of varied selection each time!) and Sunday Brunch Buffet with a selection of Nasi Lemak, Pancakes, Halwa Poori served with chickpeas and potatoes.

I'm a fan of Pasta and recommend you try the Marina Pasta, with its generous portion of clamps and fresh prawns.

For diners looking for something simple, you can opt for char kuey teow, roti canai and naan which is served with gravy. A must-try is Citrus's Briyani Rice, a specialty dish made with a Pakistani twist.

Those watching their diets have a choice of sandwiches and salads to choose from.

Citrus Restaurant and Cafe is also proud of the wide range of coffee that they serve.

For a fresh environment to catch up with good friends over good food, drop by Citrus Restaurant for a treat.

When I was growing up, there was no such thing as a kids spa. The only sort of pampering I got during my school years was to have my mum's Body Shop's Cocoa Butter cream or aloe vera rubbed onto my skin. I absolutely love the smell of Cocoa Butter! The container was tiny so we were careful to only use a fingertip amount at most. I also loved taking bubble baths but that was it.

Ah...I looked forward every school holiday and I would without fail plan so many things I wanted to do but homework very often got in the way of really enjoying myself. Can you imagine spending a holiday studying for exams which were to be held a week after school was to begin again? It's really pure torture!

I remember one of my best holidays. I was in Form Five (SPM year) and my parents came across an ad promoting an EAA Young Eagles Flying School Camp in Ulu Bernam. I excitedly asked my friends to ask their parents to allow them to join me. A week away with my friends! What an adventure! Two of them got the "ok" and our parents registered us.

We slept in tents under the starry sky and learned different things on different days. We gossiped the nights away. I can't remember how the food was but I remember us getting up really early to take our turns to shower and start on our duties. We learned to read the compass, the basic terms used in aviation, calculation methods, how to read maps and, of course, make more friends. The best part of that camp was being able to navigate a flight with a professional pilot (who most of the girls had a crush on).

Anyhow, back to the present, with the long holidays in June, you can now send your kids to fun camps and parties!

BEST EVENTS can organize one day or weekend Amazing Races for kids 9 years and above (and of course for the adults as well). We'll arrange for packed meals, t-shirts, caps, and activities to last either half a day or a full day. Just call us at least three weeks in advance. Amazing Races can be done in your own home or neighhbourhood to avoid having to go to the local municipal council to apply for permits.
